Students have the opportunity to actively participate in the field as they observe and eventually student teach in New York City schools.
Observations
In over 100 hours of fieldwork, students observe veteran arts educators in multiple settings, including schools, museums, community centers, and alternative learning sites.
School Partnerships
CCNY Graduate students are eligible to participate in one of our Teaching Residencies at local public schools to develop and teach their own lesson plans in collaboration with classroom teachers.
City Art Lab
All CCNY students teach within City Art Lab, our free after-school art program for NYC teens.
Internships
We work closely with a number of museums, schools, and community art centers to connect our students to internships in the field prior to graduation.
Student Teaching
As part of the certification requirements, students complete over 300 hours of student teaching in 2 different K-12 schools. Our faculty assist students with placements in both elementary and secondary settings throughout NYC.
